Around the Grounds:
Round 10 seen the Lions win a tight tussle against a game West side who certainly had their chances to win the game. The Lions would be happy to get the points and move on.
Sollys and Port both had their chances to win the match, with the Cats coming out on top by a small margin, in a very good game of football, but Port’s bad kicking for goals did not do them any favors.
Centrals were too strong for South with Newchurch being the difference between the sides with 6 goals.
The Country Championships are over for another year, and I would like to congratulate the players that did put your hands up in Webber from Solomontown, Oliphant & Cooper Promnitz from the Lions, and from Port with 5 players in Ebert, Murphy, Faulkner, Tyson Hanlon and Coe which was a great effort from 1 club. Coe showed his class and finished the weekend being one of the best players for the Northern Zone. All of these players at times certainly showed that they were not out of place. Once again, we had some of our top players in our league showing no interest in playing at this level. Disappointing and hard to understand. Some zones are starting to pay their players to represent their zones. If you can’t represent your zone for no cost for 1 weekend of the year, you certainly do not deserve to be in the team.
