Disappointing news last week was to hear that the Whyalla Football League notified the SGFL that they were pulling out of the match due to be played on the long weekend of June because there was lack of interest regarding getting a coach and players’ availability. Maybe in the future, the SGFL needs to look at playing against another league.
Last week we seen a ripper game where the Cats got on top of the Port bulldogs in the end and won by 19 points. It shows that both sides will be there in September as Port was gallant in defeat.
South got its first points for the season with a surprise win over the Central side thanks to the efforts of South’s recruit for the day, who kicked 4 vital goals in Mitch Robinson.
The Lions had a win over West who showed plenty of fight before succumbing to a side that just had too much class in the end. A week before the bye, we see the 3 Pirie side filling the top 3 positions on the ladder, but after the break, we all hope the Port Augusta sides will regroup and come back firing on all cylinders.
The Country Championships will be held in Port Pirie on the 11th, 12th & 13th July. We will see the best country players in the state represent their zones. This is a brilliant weekend of football, and it is well worth coming along and watching…
