SGL FINALS – Prelim WRAP
The second round of the SGL Finals got underway last weekend, with an exciting contest producing plenty of action and setting up an intriguing Grand Final.

Port Overrun Central to Set Up Grand Final Rematch
Port overrun Central Augusta to secure their place in the Grand Final and set up a rematch with the Cats. Central led for most of the game and during the 3rd quarter, looked set to establish a match-winning break. However, they failed to capitalise, kicking a wasteful 1.7 for the quarter. Port stayed within striking distance, trailing by just eight points at the final break.
Coach McNamara made several positional changes during the break, which proved to be the winning moves. Port lifted dramatically in the final quarter, kicking 4.1 to Central’s 2.4 to run out winners. For much of the game, Central had Port covered, with Aziel Stuart producing a best-on-ground performance. Max McKeough and Mark Fuller also dominated the ruck duels and gave Central plenty of opportunities. The Doggies were well served by Dickeson and Paddy Mac, while Michael Camporeale found plenty of open space and helped drive Port forward when it mattered most. The Dogs fought their way into the Grand Final, setting up a mouth-watering rematch with the Cats from last season’s Grand Final.

GRAND FINAL
This weekend, all the focus turns to Pirie, where Port will take on Solomontown in a Grand Final rematch, with both teams expected to be at full strength.
The Cats will go into the Grand Final as favourites, with Port slight underdogs — but nothing is the same when it comes to a Grand Final.
Port have plenty of players with the ability to turn matches, with the likes of Hanlon, Puddy, the Collins brothers, Paddy McNamara and Dickeson, just to name a few.
The Cats are just as well equipped, boasting players of the calibre of Corey Davey, the Munzberg brothers, Webber, Bearman, Francis, Knibbs and the Head brothers.
This will be a battle where no side can afford passengers. The back lines, midfield, forwards and even the bench will all need to be up and about for what promises to be a huge contest.
This is a battle between the SGL’s two best sides throughout the season — and one that should be worthy of a Grand Final.
