Hawks stun the Bloods to recapture 4th spot. T Mac’s return proved valuable, booting three goals, while Kayden Bejah’s best-on-ground performance led the way for the Hawks, closely followed by Lebois and Jack Fraser. For Central, Stuart and Williams battled hard all day for the Bloods in a closely fought Match of the Round. The Hawks led throughout the contest, with the Bloods unable to close the gap as the Hawks secured an important victory.

The Cats showed once again why they are the class side of the competition, cruising to a comfortable 48-point victory over the Lions. T-Webb continued to prove why he is regarded as the highest-rated small man in the competition, producing another best-on-ground performance and leading the way for the Cats. He was ably supported by the Big Boy Munzberg, while new leading goal kicker Kovacic (4) continued his impressive form. For the Lions, the evergreens, Jordy Fuller, Tyler Eckert and Ant Oliphant were among their best performers, battling hard throughout the contest.
Round 17 Preview
West Augusta v Solomontown at Central Oval
West Augusta head into the clash with plenty of confidence after a season-defining win over Central. The Hawks will be hoping to carry that momentum into their battle with the high-flying Cats, but this shapes as a massive test. Solomontown have shown throughout the season why they are considered the class of the competition, and while the Hawks have plenty of belief, they could find their recent high quickly brought back to earth by a Cats outfit firing on all cylinders. The Cats will welcome CD7 and Kaleb Head back into the line-up, further strengthening an already formidable side. The Hawks will need all their big guns firing, with Rock Colson, Kym Lebois, T Mac and Bejah all expected to play key roles if they are to stay with the Cats. Solomontown have plenty of firepower of their own, led by the free-running T-Webb, CD7, the two Munzies, Kovacic and Francis. With both sides boasting plenty of class across the park, the Hawks will need to be at their absolute best to slow down the Cats.
Port v Central Augusta at Port Oval
The Doggies are up and barking after flogging South Augusta, but Central have plenty of work to do if they are to keep their finals hopes alive and challenge for the Hawks’ spot in the race for September. Port’s brilliant demolition of South sent a massive message to the rest of the competition. The Doggies are flying and show no signs of easing up, making this another huge test for Central. The Bloods have promised plenty throughout the season but have often let themselves down with inconsistent, up-and-down performances. They simply cannot afford that against Port.
This is Central’s most important game of the season — win, and the finals dream stays alive lose, and their season is over.
PropRisdon v South Augusta — Memorial Oval
The Lions host South Augusta at Memorial Oval in a game that could have a say in the finals race. PropRisdon have struggled to keep a strong side on the park, with their top-tier players continuing to serve the club with distinction. But they desperately need more support from their teammates if they are going to knock off South. South will be smarting after being smashed by the Doggies and are unlikely to show the Lions any mercy. They have a side capable of going all the way this season, but their struggles against the top two sides continue to raise questions. This is a huge opportunity for South to prove they are the real deal. For the Lions, it’s a chance to pounce on Souths’ premiership dreams and cause a major upset.
South have plenty to prove, while the Lions have nothing to lose — this could be the Match of the Round.
