‘Players of the Week’ Round 4

‘Players of the Week’ are Centrals Brandon Jackson-Martin , Lion’s Hugo Wallace and Wests Dwayne Colson each with 9 coaches votes

Hugo Wallace, he played another strong game at centre half‑forward, giving the Lions a clean, direct avenue to goal. Hugo set the tone with seven majors, constantly presenting and finishing with confidence. Port simply had no answer for Wallace’s height, reach, and overhead strength — every long kick forward from the mid fielders was directed towards him.

Dwayne (the Rock) Colson, he’s had a consistent start to the season and currently leads Westies in votes. Across half‑back, The Rock controlled the game with his quarterback‑style rebounding and trademark leadership, setting the tempo from the back half and turning defence into attack.

Brandon Jackson-Martin, a smooth mover through the midfield who also rolled loose in defence, he put together a very solid game in a losing side. His clean ball use, composure stood out even as the team struggled to gain momentum.

Umpire abuse has to stop. Players must stop questioning decisions and abusing our umpires — it’s driving good people out of the game. If this behaviour continues, we won’t have anyone left to umpire. We’re calling on teammates to step in, pull offenders into line, and help protect the umpires who make our sport possible.

Round 5 Preview

Central vs Lions

Central Oval
Central get the home-town advantage here, which is always significant at Central Oval. If they can control the contest early and use the familiarity of the ground.
The Lions, however, will likely rely on their run and pressure game—if they can disrupt Central’s structure and keep it fast-paced, they’re right in it.

Key factor: Midfield battle — whoever gets first use should dictate the game.

Hawks vs Port

Chinnery Park
Port hit the road to take on the Hawks at Chinnery, which is never an easy trip. The Hawks tend to play well at home and will try to turn this into a tough contest.
Port’s challenge will be to bring consistency and composure away from home—if they can move the ball cleanly they’ll create scoring chances.

Key factor: Port’s ability to handle pressure in hostile territory.

Cats vs South

Memorial Oval
South travel to Pirie, where the Cats are traditionally tough to beat. The Cats will look to control the tempo and use their ground knowledge to limit South’s scoring. South will need to be efficient going inside 50 and take their chances, because opportunities might be limited.

Key factor: Forward efficiency — especially for South away from home.
