‘Players of the Week’ Round 3
‘Players of the Week’ are Port’s Blake Hanlon and Lion’s Jordan Etto both with 10 coaches votes
Jordan Etto, another new face to the SGFL, in just his second match for Lions. although no complete stranger, as Etto was a member of the Northern Zone representative team last season. Etto who plays mid-field, a natural on field leader he found the ball all over the ground and has fitted in well at Lions.
Blake Hanlon, the elusive Port forward has score his 2nd B.O.G in just 3 rounds of footy. Hanlon, a dynamic young football was without question the most damaging forward on the ground with 6 goals. The Cats tried several players on him but none could match his pace and elusiveness. Blake has become an early favourite along with Paparella for the prestigious Madigan Medal.

It is very disappointing that Round 3 saw 4 yellow cards, 3 red cards (for Umpire abuse) and a club report. Players must stop questioning Umpiring decisions by abusing our Umpires. It is no wonder we cannot retain Umpires, if the Umpire abuse continues, who is going to umpire your game? we are calling on team mates to pull the offenders into line to help stop the Umpire abuse.
The SGFL side to play the Whyalla league should be one of the best sides we have fielded for many years, if the players put up their hands up to play. Coach Matt Promnitz, hopefully will have plenty of players available, thus making his job of selecting a side difficult, but in the meantime it will put a smile on his face. With all the new players coming into the league this season, along with our regular top liners, all goes well for this game, which will be played at Port Augusta on the 6th June long weekend.
Another reminder, we are still looking for umpires. Boundary, Field and Goal. Yes, it is a paid job. Contact SGFL if you are interested.
Round 4 this weekend, the Lions host Port at Memorial Oval, the Hawks meet South in the 5pm Twilight game at Central Oval and at ESTA Oval the Cats will front the Bloods.
